New future for Ledbury’s Cider Shop

threecountiescidershopLedbury’s Three Counties Cider Shop is now being run by the Cider Core, a partnership of four local cider producers – Wilce’s, Gregg’s Pit, Once Upon a Tree and Oliver’s.

The team are organising regular monthly cider tastings featuring the products of the partners between 11am and 2pm on the first Saturday of every month as follows:

  • 1st October — Wilce’s Cider
  • 5th November — Tom Oliver’s
  • 3rd December — Gregg’s Pit

In addition, the team are relaunching the Cider Shop’s Cider Club.  By joining (free) you will get details of forthcoming cider events that they are running, and other privileges including discounts.  Contact the shop for details.

The shop at 5a The Homend, Ledbury, HR8 1BN will continue to stock a fabulous range from the many local ciders, perrys and beers made in Herefordshire, Gloucestershire and Worcestershire.

A speciality is the availability of a selection of draught local ciders and perrys to buy to take home.   And… tastings to help you make your mind up are usually available!

For opening hours and more information see details of the Shop on www.onceuponatree.co.uk or call the shop on: 01531 248004

Golden Fire

goldenfireappHerefordshire’s Rural Media Company has been busy on a project to explore Herefordshire’s cider heritage from 1945 to the present day.  Working with local cider producers, they have produced a fabulous film record of this period, documenting both the rise of the big cider producers in the county – Bulmer’s (now Heineken) and Weston’s, and the more recent genesis of a whole new generation of award winning craft cider makers.

Together with the film they have created an electronic archive of interviews and photographs which can be accessed by the App “Golden Fire” available from the App Store or Google play via www.goldenfirehfd.co.uk .  The App includes an up-to-date guide to all the ciders being made in the county today, and enables you to:

  • Watch videos about the county’s key producers
  • Use the interactive map to find your way around Herefordshire
  • Rate and share every cider made in the county

Do see the film if you get the opportunity to attend a viewing.  If you can’t wait, the film can be purchased on DVD from The Rural Media Company.

The film is getting a special showing as part of the Big Apple Weekend on Saturday 8th October at Much Marcle Village Hall.

The Big Apple Harvestime Weekend – 8th and 9th October

bigapplelogoredDon’t forget to put this weekend in your diaries.  Plenty of events are taking place on the themes of apples, cider and perry in and around Much Marcle.  Full details of the programme are available at www.bigapple.org.uk or from the leaflets around Ledbury and district.
