Ledbury Big Breakfast is coming!

One of Ledbury’s popular events – the Ledbury Big Breakfast – is taking place over Friday 31st January, Saturday 1st and Sunday 2nd February 2025.

Local shops, cafes, hotels and other food outlets in and around Ledbury are challenged to come up with special breakfast offerings for you featuring locally produced food to brighten a winter’s day.

Breakfasts can be big or small, traditional or newly invented, to be enjoyed in our local eating places or taken home for enjoyment.  Many venues will provide vegan, vegetarian and gluten free options – please check with them.

Last year you could have savoured Hot Breakfast Sandwiches, American Pancakes, Devilled Kidneys, Bacon Rolls, Eggs Royale, Benedict or Florentine, French Toast and Caramelised Bananas, a Pancake Tower, Bacon Rolls, Huevos Rancheros, Smoked Salmon, Brioche Butties, Porridge Brulé, local breads and cheese and, of course the traditional English Breakfast in all sizes and variations.

Local butchers, delicatessens and the Country Market will feature local produce for you to take home – and perhaps some breakfast specials for the event!

The Big Breakfast brings cheer at the darkest time of the year, with a positive message about the qualities of our local produce and food offerings.  We also celebrate the importance – and on this occasion pleasure – of starting the day with a satisfying breakfast.

Why not use the event as an opportunity to go out with your neighbours, friends or colleagues?

Full details of all our businesses taking part, their special offerings and which days these will be on sale will be available on this website from mid-January.

Things can be busy particularly on the Saturday – many venues will take reservations to make things easier.  A number will be now open on the Sunday.

Put a note in your diary to enjoy a scrumptious Ledbury breakfast, and please also help Ledbury Food Bank if you can.  Find out how at www.ledburyfoodbank.org.

We look forward to seeing you!

Ledbury celebrates The Big Breakfast

Over the weekend of 2nd to 4th February lots of ardent breakfasters were out and about to enjoy what was on offer this year at The Ledbury Big Breakfast.

A great way to start The big Breakfast with friends.

We were grateful for the unseasonably mild weather which encouraged breakfasters to eat “al fresco” at several venues.

Both Gurneys and Wallers Butchers created special breakfast products, and on the Friday, the Country Market served cooked breakfasts at the Burgage Hall.  The Big Breakfast also featured at Hellens Produce Market on the Saturday.

Food venues in Ledbury reported good demand including “first-timers” Fresh Blooms Sandwiches and The Ledberry.  At the Trumpet Tearoom, Annie lit the 50 year old Aga to provide extra cooking capacity.

The Organic Café’s Middle Eastern style breakfast was popular and raised £550 for MSF Doctors without Borders to help with their valuable work – the Zaatar and oil flatbread looked appealing.

The High Sheriff of Herefordshire, Robert Robinson joined the Town Mayor of Ledbury Councillor Helen I’Anson, County Councillors Stef Simmons and Justine Peberdy, The Town Clerk and members of Ledbury Food Group for breakfast to launch the event.  Mr Robinson and the Mayor then visited a number of venues taking part.

Mr Robinson was impressed by what he saw – “REALLY good food here, lots of proper Herefordshire fare, in the lovely historic market town of Ledbury” he wrote on his very complementary Facebook post.

We thank all who made this year’s Ledbury Big Breakfast another great success – showing off the quality and variety of Ledbury and district’s food offering.

Thanks too to all who supported this year’s event by coming out for breakfast.

Apologies to those who were not able to get their first choice on Saturday – sadly there is a limit to capacity in town for this popular event.

The Ledbury Big Breakfast 2022 – a big thank you!

Many thanks to all who contributed to the success of last weekend’s Ledbury Big Breakfast celebrating a healthy start to the day and Ledbury and district’s riches in local food.

Nineteen local food businesses – Hotels, cafes, pubs and delis – provided the widest range of breakfasts of all sizes from the lightest to the “super heaviest” for those who chose to “eat out”.  Local butchers, delis and the Country Market had local favourites for those who fancied a breakfast at home.

There were Full English Breakfasts of all sizes for the cognoscenti, but also lots of other delights including a Breakfast Nest, a twist on Eggs Benedict, breakfast salmon, breakfast baps with all kinds of filling, a loaded breakfast rosti and a breakfast waffle. Increasingly there more vegetarian and vegan options on the menus this year.

On Friday, “Breakfast Bells” pealed from the Church to mark the opening of the Big Breakfast weekend.

The High Sheriff of Herefordshire Jo Hilditch, The Chair of Herefordshire Council Cllr Sebastian Bowen, Deputy Mayor Phillip Howells, Town Clerk Angela Price and members of Ledbury Food Group celebrated the event with breakfast at the Market House, followed by visits to some of the businesses taking part.  They also visited the Ukrainian Aid centre in the Market House and the new premises of Ledbury Food Bank.

On Saturday, the busiest day, local MP Sir Bill Wiggin toured businesses in Ledbury to thank them for taking part and meeting most of our “first-timers”.

On Sunday there was more choice this year for those who fancied a special Sunday breakfast.

We hope that next year we can run the event at the end of January its
“traditional” time.

Please let us have your feedback and suggestions for next year.

Again many thanks!
