7th Ledbury Big Breakfast beats the weather – thanks

Thanks to everyone who took part in this special festival of local food last weekend, and especially this year those who came out on a freezing Friday to enjoy a heart-warming breakfast. Your support for the event is very much appreciated by our local food producers, retailers and caterers.

This year 19 food businesses took part in the event – cafes, pubs, hotels, delis and butchers. Challenged to produce special breakfast dishes featuring local produce for the event, venues produced a range of offerings wide enough to satisfy any breakfaster. Many of course enjoyed a good traditional Ledbury breakfast, and it was great to see how much this has become a social event.

Ledbury’s butchers tempted those who prefer breakfast at home – Gurneys with a special Big Breakfast sausage recipe and Wallers with a breakfast wrap and their “Full Monty” sausage – and breakfast empanadas were on offer at Ceci Paolo.

High Sheriff of Herefordshire Nat Hone and Mrs Hone together with Councillor Nina Shields, Chairman of Ledbury Town Council visited the event on Friday. After a hearty breakfast they visited several venues taking part, and spent time finding out about the Ledbury Food Bank and visiting the Friday Country Market.

On Saturday, Ledbury Refugee Support held another of their popular “Middle Eastern Breakfasts” at the Organic Café. They are delighted to announce that the total raised came to just under £600! Funds will go towards aid sent to refugee camps in the Middle East. Joyce Mason for the Group said, “We are grateful for all the support we received and hope that everyone who attended enjoyed their meal as much as we enjoyed taking part.”

If you breakfasted over the weekend, please let us know your feedback at ask@ledburyfoodgroup.org so that we can do even better next year.
