Congratulations to 2019 Great Taste Award winners

Congratulations to local food and drink producers have again done well in this year’s Great Taste Awards, emphasising the wealth of super food and drink produced in Herefordshire and nearby.

Ledbury and district producers who have achieved awards this year include JUS from Aylton with their Cox’s Origin Pippin and Worcester Permain Apple Juices (both 2 star awards), Myrtle’s Kitchen from the Hop Pocket with their Mango Chutney (2 stars), Just Rachel Quality Desserts from Bromsberrow with their Gooseberry and Elderflower Ice Cream (1 star), Townsend Farm, Stretton Grandison (1 star) for their farm pressed Jonagold apple juice and Willys Ltd with orchards in Little Marcle for their Apple Cider Vinegars (four awards) and their Kombucha drinks (two awards). Evening Farmers Market in Ledbury takes off

The next Ledbury Evening Farmers Market will take place at The Barn, St Katherine’s (by the Library) from 6 to 8 pm on Thursday 5th September, organised by Ledbury Food Group.

Fast becoming a go-to food destination for local food, this monthly market champions local farmers and artisan producers. August Recipe: A Plate Of Three Dips – Beetroot & Date, Feta & Fennel, Carrot & Cumin

All three dips can be made up to 3 days ahead, kept covered and chilled. The beetroot dip can be served with sour cream and blinis, or as an accompaniment to roast duck, pork or goose. Herefordshire Chosen to Host International Cider Celebration

The county of Herefordshire is coming together to host the first conference of the recently-formed International Network of Cider Culture & Tourism Destinations this autumn. As interest in cider continues to grow throughout the world, “Ciderlands” as the network is known, seeks to promote travel and cultural exchanges between classic and emerging cider regions, as well as to act as a cider tourism beacon for the world as a whole. Farmers’ Market Thursday 1st August – It’s All About Taste

Alice Walters, of the famous Chez Panisse in Berkeley California, had her “epiphany” moment in Brittany some 50 years ago when she ate a meal in a simple restaurant and wondered why everything tasted so delicious. Everything came from the local market that morning. Back home she couldn’t create that taste until she searched out vegetables, fruits, fish and meat direct from the producer. Based on local, fresh and mostly organic, she set up one of the most successful restaurants in San Francisco.
